App Store screenshot sizes and requirements (2026)
The required sizes for 2026
App Store Connect organizes screenshots by display size, and you only have to provide the largest current size for each device family. Smaller devices are covered by scaling.
iPhone, portrait pixel dimensions:
- 6.9-inch, the primary requirement: 1320 by 2868 pixels. Devices include recent Pro Max models.
- 6.5-inch, accepted if you do not provide 6.9-inch: 1284 by 2778 pixels.
- 6.3-inch: 1179 by 2556 pixels.
- 6.1-inch: 1170 by 2532 pixels.
iPad, portrait pixel dimensions:
- 13-inch, the primary requirement: 2064 by 2752 pixels. Recent iPad Pro and iPad Air models.
- 12.9-inch: 2048 by 2732 pixels.
- 11-inch: 1488 by 2266 pixels.
For landscape, swap the width and height. iPad screenshots are required only if your app runs on iPad. Other platforms have their own sizes: Apple Watch, Apple TV, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro each use separate specifications, listed in Apple's screenshot specifications.
Format, count, and scaling rules
A few requirements apply across all sizes:
- Count: at least 1 and at most 10 screenshots per display size, per localization.
- Format: PNG or JPEG.
- Color: RGB, with no alpha channel for JPEG.
- Exact dimensions: the pixel size must match the spec exactly. Even one pixel off can be rejected, so do not pad or crop loosely.
- Scaling: if you provide the largest display size, the App Store generates scaled versions for smaller devices in the same family. You can still upload device-specific screenshots if you want precise control.
Because the largest size scales down, the efficient approach is to design the 6.9-inch iPhone set and, if you support iPad, the 13-inch iPad set, then let Apple scale.
Content rules that get screenshots rejected
Sizing is only half the job. Screenshots also have to follow the content rules in Guideline 2.3, or the app gets rejected even when the dimensions are correct:
- Show the app in use. Under 2.3.3, screenshots should show the app in use, not just the title art, login page, or splash screen.
- Be accurate. Screenshots must reflect the real app and not depict features the app does not have.
- Be appropriate for all audiences. Under 2.3.8, metadata including screenshots should adhere to a 4+ age rating even if the app is rated higher.
- Use fictional data. Under 2.3.9, display fictional account information instead of a real person's data, and secure rights to any materials you include.
Text and image overlays are allowed, for example to label a feature or show a tap point, as long as they represent the actual app.
How AppFlight helps with screenshots
AppFlight includes marketing autopilot for app icon, screenshots, mockups, and ASO, so it can help you produce screenshots that reflect the app you built and fit the current display sizes. Because AppFlight runs your app in a live iOS simulator, the screenshots come from the real, running app rather than from mockups that might misrepresent it, which keeps them aligned with Guideline 2.3. You are still responsible for choosing accurate, appropriate images. AppFlight does not guarantee approval. Apple reviews every app and its metadata, so submitted is not the same as approved.
FAQ
What App Store screenshot size do I need in 2026?
For iPhone, the 6.9-inch display at 1320 by 2868 pixels portrait. For iPad, the 13-inch display at 2064 by 2752 pixels portrait. Providing the largest size lets the App Store scale down for smaller devices, so you do not need every size.
How many screenshots can I upload?
You can upload 1 to 10 screenshots per display size and localization. At least one is required. Apple accepts PNG and JPEG, in RGB, at the exact pixel dimensions for that display, with no off-by-one tolerance.
Do I need iPad screenshots?
Only if your app runs on iPad. If it does, iPad screenshots are required, and you should provide the 13-inch set. If your app is iPhone only, you do not upload iPad screenshots.
